About Us
Who We Are
Our founder, Celia Denton, is an Industrial Psychologist who completed her studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). During her school years and early twenties, Celia realised how critical career guidance and effective study methods are in shaping a young person’s future.
Helping and guiding others soon became her passion. In addition to founding the Study Methods Academy, Celia is also the owner of PTES, a psychometric assessment firm. She specialises in human personality and completed her Master’s degree dissertation in 2013 on “Personality Types and Occupations.”
The co-owner of the Study Methods Academy is Celia’s brother, Nico Loubser, who oversees the organisation’s technical requirements. Nico holds a BSc Honours degree in Information Technology.
Together, Celia and Nico have created a platform that enables students from around the world to discover their passions and identify meaningful career paths. Beyond this, we equip students with the study skills they need to achieve their goals through effective and practical learning strategies.
We have successfully guided numerous students and adults, with a particular focus on high school students, university students, and full-time employees studying part-time.
Our Vision & Mission
Our vision and mission are to make useful (well researched and scientifically valid) tips available to everyone worldwide! We use additional tools, like the “learning preference test” to make it even more simple so that you can study according to your own preferences and styles.
More About Celia
As Celia grew up, she always struggled with remembering and concentration during her early learning years. She had to put in twice as much effort for fewer marks than her fellow learners. Anxiety and stress became debilitating factors that impacted Celia’s academic performance. Only later in life that she discovered how to learn and what her unique requirements were.
In 1998, our founder enrolled part-time at the University of South Africa (UNISA) to pursue her passion, Psychology and graduated as an Industrial Psychologist in 2013. During her studies, Celia was also diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD). Her diagnosis meant that she was under more pressure trying to cope with her stress, anxiety and to keep up academically.
However, regardless of her ADD diagnosis and working a full-time job, Celia remained determined to complete her studies. UNISA helped her discover more about her learning requirements, and it is here, with the support of Tony Buzan, that Celia developed her unique study methodology.
